"Zach Attack" Memorial 5K Obstacle Course
Our date for 2020 is July 18, 2020 at Soddy Daisy High School
Come race the ‘Zach Attack 5K’ benefiting the Zachary T Schafer 501(c)3 Memorial Fund. Help honor Zach’s legacy by racing on his JROTC Raiders State Competition training course at Soddy Daisy High School.

This event is a tribute to the memory of Zach Schafer. All proceeds with go directly to the Zachary T Schafer 501(c)3 Memorial Fund.
Zach Schafer was a 15 year old athlete, a competitor and a prankster, but the legacy he left behind was not about that. Zach was compassionate and caring. He had an infectious smile and gave amazing hugs! He led life with his heart first and honor next. His love and empathy for others was present in his everyday life. He was best remembered by his classmates and friends for 'just always being there for them’…for always putting others needs before his own. Zach had a love for life that still shines through today. This event is to help keep that LOVE shining. To honor Zach and continue to "Pay It Forward" to others as he did to those of the lives he touched.
Distributions from the fund will be awarded annually via a scholarship to a student that most exemplifies Zach's legacy of giving to and caring for others before himself.
Recipients are nominated and ultimately selected by a committee of faculty and coaches. Recipients must have demonstrated the recurring ability to show kindness and compassion to others less fortunate to themselves. In addition, they must have demonstrated a documented level of volunteerism in their community. Final selection is based on an essay written on Integrity and how they apply it to their home, school and work life.
So this scholarship doesn't have to do with grades, popularity or athleticism...it’s literally given to the kindest person. The person that gives the most to others, who unselfishly puts others before themselves.
From time to time, grants will also be awarded to the JROTC, other high school programs, local volunteer first responder organizations and service-oriented community groups that also exemplifies Zach's legacy.
To date, in addition to three scholarships in 2018, 2019 and 2020, grants have been made to the Soddy Daisy High School JROTC, the Hamilton County S.T.A.R.S (www.starsrescue.net) and ReBoot Recovery (www.RebootAlliance.com/reboot).
